Achernar is the brightest light in the constellation of Eridanus. In arabic the name means the end of the river. This piece was based on writing much less polyphonic material and that most of the electronics would have to be based on the sound made by the quartet. It was also a test as to how to make electronics sound like a quartet.
Most of the electronics (except for some concrete sounds) are created by using the technique of ring modulation. Antescofo automatically calculates the needed frenquencies to get the wanted harmonic notes as the string quartet is playing. Additionally, the electronics go from rather traditional harmony into a more modern pitch organization as the piece moves on, much like a river.
