Mixtur 2019 with Tristan Murail, Michael Obst, etc

I’m incredibly thankful and excited to go to Mixtur 2019 in Barcelona to study with Tristan Murail, Michael Obst and many other great composers this spring. I’ll be getting a reading of a new piece I just started working on for violin and cello. The working title for the piece is “Life in the Anthropocene”.

Back home & grant awarded

Yesterday I came back home from the world’s first international conference on mixed music pedagogy at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. I presented some of my doctoral research as part of the conference for which I got a lot of praise and support.

Recently, I have also been awarded a very generous grant from the Norwegian Composer’s Fund. With this grant I will now be able to work on my new commission piece Quasar for 12 musicians and live electronics. The piece will be premiered in November 2019 by the Trondheim Sinfonietta. The premier will also be accompanied by a workshop for musicians that want to learn more about playing with electronics. I will soon start posting about the composition process, as well as work on other compositions.

Update & publishing

Several of my older compositions have now been published by NB Noter and can be purchased at their website. I will be uploading more information for the actual compositions soon.

In mid-november I will be presenting at the first Mixed Music Pedagogy Conference in Montreal, Canada about the aesthetic and performative effects of synchronization.

I’m also currently finishing the electronics of Anomie, mostly fixing small issues. I will be posting more about it soon.

Slight update

In the coming weeks I will be publishing a slew of older compositions for which the scores have just needed to be touched up. They will once again be published by NB Noter. Electronics will be available through this website with updated versions by taking contact with me. Hopefully this will mean more performances as well. This website is also being slowly updated with some of my new pieces from 2018.

I am currently writing several pieces which can hopefully be performed and recorded in early 2019. In November I will be giving a talk titled “Exploring Different Synchronization Methods & Their Performative and Aesthetic Consequences” at the International Conference for Mixed Music Pedagogy. My talk given in Florence, Italy last june will soon also be published on the EMS website. On a more local level, I will be giving two talks here in Norway in October.

Another composition diary for Anomie is coming soon. I have worked on the piece, but haven’t written much about it yet. I will also start posting about some of the other pieces, as well as a few other pieces I will be helping to perform such as Vent nocturne by Kaija Saariaho.

Two published scores

Hello,

Last week I got the confirmation of the publishing of two of my scores by NB Noter. You can buy the scores and many other scores from contemporary composers here.

More scores are to be published as soon as I finish updating the electronics for them.
